Vocal based toolkit
The goal of both intellectual output is to give a toolkit for youth workers and communities to improve their sensitivity and interest in music. The principle of the toolkit is to be understandable and joyful and can develop certain musical skills (eg. hearing, listening, vocal expression, sense of rhythm, recognition of melodies etc.) and perception of music without previous musical background and training. The innovative character of the toolkit is its usability without any professional background of the youth workers and the target groups (youth communities).
The concrete content of the vocal-based toolkit has the priority to use human voice in different context through vocal exercises, sound creation, imitation, dynamic effect, composition simple melodies on certain texts, combination of effects and movements etc. The application of the toolkit use non-formal methods like group work, working in pairs, common singing and talking, non-verbal expression, movements or dances etc. Practical work with the toolkit must have an additional aim as well: the transfer effect of musical activities is able to develop special social skills of the participants such as attention to the others, cooperation, working in group, inclusion, solidarity, responsibility, general sensibility.
Relying on previous experience, we are thinking about the following content in the vocal-based toolkit: open singing, folk song and canon singing, pop and rap text writing, creation of own music compositions and melodies, listening to video and sound recordings from all over the world. (At the program of Learning Teaching Training event you find detailed description of these activities and games.)
The elaboration of the toolkit is not only to collect materials, exercises, broadcasts and video extracts, but we need to give detailed description and explanation of each moment of the activity including methods and instructions for the animators. It means that the activity sheets and tutorial sheets are the integrated part of the toolkit and must be published as well. A special website will be created to publish the toolkits online, where the elements or even the whole toolkit can be downloaded or printed.
We didn’t want to create a separate intellectual output for the articles concerning the project aims and results. So we planned an additional part for Intellectual Output 01 for these articles. The importance of the articles is to give professional overview on the materials we are going to offer youth workers, that is why we work with two professions, musicians and youth workers together. We are looking for answers to these important questions: how to use it in certain programmes or spontaneously, how to use it in direct music trainings as a relax or leisure activity, what were the most interesting reactions and experiences of the testing period, what are the possibilities of further development. There will be a special Learning Teaching Training course in Hungary for youth workers to explain and test how the toolkit works, and it could give us an opportunity for a further discussion on the possibilities to adapt and transfer it in variant occasions and in different youth groups. To share the results of these events and meetings, we will publish articles on the ImMusic website, social media platforms, and we will present them at international conferences. These articles and presentations have also a crucial part in the intellectual output.
Instrument based toolkit
The goal of both intellectual output is to give a toolkit for youth workers and communities to improve their sensitivity and interest in music. The principle of the toolkit is to be understandable and joyful and can develop certain musical skills (eg. hearing, listening, vocal expression, sense of rhythm, recognition of melodies etc.) and perception of music without previous musical background and training. The innovative character of the toolkit is its usability without any professional background of the youth workers and the target groups (youth communities).
The concrete content of the instrumental-based toolkit has the priority to use music in different context through instrumental exercises, sound creation, imitation, dynamic effect, composition of simple or combined rhythms, combination of noise effects and movements etc. The instrumental based toolkit needs special care and concentration during the elaboration period to use any equipment and instruments that are available in ordinary community spaces. If not, they have to offer instruments which are enough movable to be used by the animator in the youth group. And there is also a way to emphasize the usage of human body as a possible instrument – several folk music, folk dance and many classical pieces can be a good example for it. The database of usable videos would help to substitute the missing musical instruments in the community places.
The application of the toolkit use non-formal methods like group work, working in pairs, common clapping and stamping, non-verbal expression, movements or dances etc. Practical work with the toolkit must have an additional aim as well: the transfer effect of musical activities is able to develop special social skills of the participants such as attention to the others, cooperation, working in group, inclusion, solidarity, responsibility, general sensibility.
Relying on previous experience, we are thinking about the following content in the instrumentalbased toolkit: coordinated rhythmic movements like clapping, finger snapping, foot stamping, humming or even beatbox, creation of own rhythms and sounds using instruments made by everyday objects, listening to video and sound recordings from all over the world, understanding musical instruments. (At the program of Learning Teaching Training event you find detailed description of these activities and games.)
